Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

In addition to learner-internal influences CLKs' awareness of pragmatic resistance and the relationship advantages they were able to draw from were important. Discourse Construction Tests

For instance it is that the DCT cannot account for cultural and personal variations in communication. The DCT can also be biased and can lead to overgeneralizations. Despite its limitations the DCT is a useful instrument to study the relationship between prosody, information structure, and non-native speakers. This feature can help researchers understand the role of prosody in communication across different cultural contexts, which is a major issue in cross-cultural pragmatics.

In the field of linguistics DCT is one of the most effective tools used for analyzing communication behaviors of learners. It can be used to examine various aspects such as politeness, turn taking, and lexical choice. It can also be used to determine the phonological complexity of learners' speech.

A recent study used an DCT to evaluate EFL students' refusal skills. The participants were given various scenarios and were required to choose a suitable response from the options provided. The researchers discovered that the DCT to be more effective than other methods for refusing like the use of a questionnaire or video recordings. This study looked at Chinese learners' pragmatic choices when using Korean. Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate level who responded to MQs, DCTs and RIs. They were also asked to think about their evaluations and refusal performance in RIs. First, the MQ data were analysed to determine the participants' rational choices. The data were classified according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, we compared the choices with their linguistic performance using DCTs to determine if they were indicative of resistance to pragmatics. The interviewees were asked to explain their decision to use pragmatic language in a specific scenario.

The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were analyzed with descriptive statistics and Z tests. The CLKs were found use euphemistic words like "sorry" or "thank you". The key issue in research on pragmatics is: Why do some learners choose not to accept native-speaker norms? Recent research attempted to answer this question with a variety of experiments, including DCTs MQs and RIs. The participants consisted of 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs, and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. Participants were asked to complete the DCTs and MQs in their L1 or their L2. They were then invited to an RI where they were asked to think about and discuss their responses to each DCT scenario.

The results showed that CLKs on average, did not adhere to the patterns of native speakers in more than 40% of their responses. They did this even though they could produce native-like patterns. They were also aware of their pragmatic resistance. They attributed their choice to learner-internal factors such as their personalities and multilingual identities. They also mentioned external factors, such as relational benefits. They outlined, for instance, how their interactions with their professors helped them to perform better in terms of the linguistic and cultural expectations of their university.

This will enable them to better know how different cultures can affect the pragmatic behavior of L2 learners in the classroom and beyond.
